Artist's Statement
I like the beautiful and the uncomfortable. People dislike snakes, but I paint them over and over. I view them as symbols of healing, healthy sexuality and change - after all snakes change their skins over and over again. Rats - another unpopular subject - remind me of humans with their clever little paws. My strongest influences are found in the Art Brut / Outsider Artists movement - pieces such as street preacher James Hampton's The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly.
