A Poem for Pompeii
Ash falls on the ruined city
flakes of grey
drifting down
upon streets
houses and temples.
Ash falls on Pompeii
flakes of grey
drifting down
upon bodies
of men and women.
Ash falls on shattered dreams
flakes of grey
drifting down
upon hopes
love and life.
Ash falls on the mountainside
flakes of grey
drifting down
upon ghosts
the dead and the gone.
